Thank you Mr President

What a man, a proper badminton man. Through and through, Geoff loved everything about our wonderful sport.

I have so many fond memories of Geoff but I loved every moment of being around him at the World Championships we staged at Wembley Arena in 2011. Geoff became President of Badminton England shortly before the Championships and loved the fact that we had won a bid that would take badminton back to Wembley - a place that held so many memories for him.

Our sports presentation was 100% about London; iconic landmarks, traditions and identifiable 'props' such as the London bus.

Instead of using coaches to transport VIPs around, we hired an old London Routemaster - Geoff was so excited and the image I've shared was him taking the cap from the driver as we were about to collect delegates and guests from the BWF. I have always kept this image and it was the first one I looked at when I learned of Geoff's passing.

He was a proud President, he travelled the country representing Badminton England and he never forgot the volunteers, because he always was 'one of the workers' as he called them. It was fitting that Geoff was Badminton England's President at the London 2012 Olympic Games because this was the greatest event in badminton, and he was the greatest man.

I'll miss you Mr President but so will the world of badminton. Your giant shoes will never be filled, nor do we want them to.

Time for a rest Geoff, sleep well.

Adrian Christy

Chief Executive, Badminton England
